Geological Information: Chrysanthemum stone is the result of geological changes in the Permian period around 270 million years ago. This was before the Dinosaurs. It is formed from fossilised marine organisms and silt. The black stone consists of selenium, strontium and bismuth. The white flower is made up of gypsum, dolomite, limestone, calcite, feldspar and celestite.

Natural Chrysanthemum stone like that pictured here, occurs in the Hunan region of China. At present this is the only place it is found.
